Acqua di Sale SPA – Margherita di Savoia Thermal Baths

Client:

The Margherita di Savoia Thermal Baths are located in Puglia, between the sea and the evocative landscape of the salt pans, in a location known since antiquity for the properties of its waters.

The thermal facility utilizes Mother Waters—salt-bromine-iodine waters—for balneotherapy and the preparation of thermal muds, offering treatments dedicated to health, wellness, and personal regeneration.

A place where thermal tradition, natural resources, and body care meet in a unique context, deeply rooted in the territory.

Project:

The “Acqua di Sale” thermal SPA, designed by Studio Silvia Giannini Architects, is located within the Margherita di Savoia Thermal Baths and Grand Hotel delle Terme complex, on the seafront of Margherita di Savoia, Puglia.

The project, developed over 350 sqm, was born from the request to create a pool with water features and a Kneipp path, maintaining its own identity while integrating with the facility’s other thermal activities.

The name “Acqua di Sale” (Salt Water) derives from the particular characteristic of the thermal water used: mother water, with a high salt concentration. This is used in the pool, the Kneipp path, and numerous thermal treatments for its therapeutic properties.

The intervention revolves around two curvilinear pools, inspired by the salt of the nearby salt pans. White, the predominant color, interacts with the turquoise of the linings and the shades of the Apulian sea.

The sinusoidal staircase connecting to the treatment area on the upper floor is of great impact, designed as an organic path that recalls the flow of brackish water.
